Zuckerberg’s Move for Low-Cost Chips

Tech giant Meta is preparing to acquire the Korean artificial intelligence chip venture, FuriosaAI. It is noted that the company aims to produce low-cost chips with this step. According to reports in the U.S. press, Mark Zuckerberg’s company Meta has accelerated efforts to acquire the artificial intelligence chip venture FuriosaAI. The completion of the acquisition agreement is expected next month. FuriosaAI specialized in chips for optimizing AI applications, and in 2021, it created Warboy. Moreover, in August, it released the advanced accelerator chip RNGD. It is mentioned that RNGD can be used for Meta’s models like Llama 2 and Llama 3. The chips produced by FuriosaAI, founded by former Samsung and AMD Engineer June Paik, are said to cost half of Nvidia’s. Zuckerberg’s move was the latest step of the company in the field of artificial intelligence. Experts have indicated that Meta aims to grab a share in the low-cost chip market. Analysts expressed that with this acquisition, the company’s shares could experience a $100 increase. Meta announced last month that it would spend $65 billion in 2025, with a significant portion allocated to AI infrastructure.
