The Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, has stated that they do not anticipate any price increases in electricity and natural gas until April. In response to the question of whether there will be an increase in electricity and natural gas prices, Minister Bayraktar stated, “Our goal is to not reflect the costs to our citizens as much as possible. In this sense, we hope to go through winter without any price increases or hikes for households in terms of natural gas and electricity. We do not anticipate any increases for households until April.” THE NEW ERA IN ELECTRICITY Minister Bayraktar was also asked about the regulation that citizens consuming more than 5,000 kilowatt hours annually would no longer benefit from electricity subsidies and the criticisms from the opposition. Bayraktar stated, “The opposition’s claims are as always based on falsehood and distortion…1.2 million out of 42 million subscribers will be affected by this regulation. The remaining 40.8 million subscribers will not see any changes in their lives. Subscribers consuming over 5,000 kilowatt hours will no longer be eligible for support from February 2024.” A CRUCIAL YEAR FOR AKKUYU Minister Bayraktar mentioned that the commissioning of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant has been delayed due to the Russia-Ukraine war, and some equipment supplies have been hindered by European countries. Emphasizing that supplies are being secured through other channels, Bayraktar mentioned that significant steps will be seen in Akkuyu in 2025. Bayraktar stated, “2025 is a very critical year for us, I can say that it is the most critical year for the first reactor of Akkuyu, even if it is for testing purposes, to start producing electricity. Our goal is to complete this project entirely as soon as possible, with 4 reactors.”
