Will Egg Prices Increase? Turkey to Export 15 Thousand Tons to the USA

The bird flu crisis in the USA has become an opportunity for Turkish producers. Turkey has started exporting eggs to the USA after 2 years. The 15 thousand tons of exports will be completed by July. Industry representatives stated that this export will not affect prices in the domestic market.
The USA has been working to control the spread of bird flu first detected in Texas in late March of last year and spreading to different states. Since April, bird flu has infected nearly 70 people, with one death in the USA; most cases have been seen among farm workers exposed to infected poultry or cows.
Due to bird flu, a large number of poultry have been culled in the country, leading to an egg shortage in the USA.
USA TO IMPORT EGGS FROM TURKEY IN 2 YEARS After these developments, the USA imported eggs from Turkey, which it last imported in January 2023. The President of the Egg Producers Central Union (YUM-BIR), Ibrahim Afyon, stated that due to the egg supply shortage, the USA turned to alternative import markets and that American companies contacted them in this regard.
Afyon announced that they have made an agreement for approximately 15 thousand tons in this context.
Emphasizing that there will be 700 container loads, Afyon stated that the shipments that started in February will be completed by early July.
Afyon expressed that this agreement corresponds to an export income of about 26 million dollars.
WILL PRICES INCREASE BEFORE RAMADAN?
Stating that there is more production than domestic consumption in Turkey, Afyon said that the export will not have any negative effect on domestic market supply or egg prices.
