Vice President Yılmaz: U.S. Tariffs Beneficial for Turkey

Vice President Yılmaz stated that the initial low tariff imposed by the U.S. on Turkey is favorable and added, “This situation also leads to a decrease in commodity prices.” He expressed that the current situation is in Turkey’s favor. Before the AK Party Parliamentary Group Meeting, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz responded to journalists’ questions and made assessments. He mentioned that within this month, they will announce the Eastern Black Sea Action Plan in Giresun, followed by the Economy Coordination Board meeting. When asked about the new customs tariffs imposed by the U.S., Yılmaz emphasized the importance of examining the pros and cons, considering the global impacts on the world economy. He underlined the necessity to monitor the outcome resulting from negotiations with a critical eye. Yılmaz highlighted the importance of closely monitoring the development of the situation. Regarding the 10% customs tariff imposed on Turkey, Yılmaz mentioned that negotiations will be carried out. He emphasized the trade volume with the U.S. exceeding 32 billion dollars and the balanced trade relationship they maintain, aiming to reach a set target of 100 billion dollars determined by leaders. Yılmaz stated that the forthcoming period will be dedicated to intensively examining how to enhance and expand trade between Turkey and the U.S. He also stressed the beginning of a new era in world trade following recent developments and mentioned that new trade conditions will require a close watch due to their potential impact on trade policies, investment returns, logistics, and supply systems. Yılmaz indicated the need for detailed analysis as competition may intensify in other markets with the increasing difficulty of the American market, a point that will be addressed in the upcoming Economy Coordination Board meeting. Yılmaz expressed the significance of developing multifaceted policies to evaluate all elements regarding new trade conditions and their implications for the country. As for the “Terörsüz Türkiye” (Terror-Free Turkey) target, Yılmaz highlighted its importance, mentioning an expected meeting with participants from the Democrat Party within the week. Yılmaz emphasized the meticulous nature of the process and the hope for successful fulfillment of the goal of achieving a terror-free Turkey, enhancing national unity, democracy, and economic development.
