US Decision on Gazprom Exemption for Turkey

Following negotiations between Turkey and the United States, the exemption period for Gazprombank sanctions has been extended until May. The United States has decided to extend the exemption requested by Turkey regarding Gazprombank. The exemption granted to Turkey on December 20 was set to expire today. The Ministry of Treasury and Finance, along with the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, had been conducting intensive work on this matter. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek had a teleconference with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent regarding this issue. Turkey makes payments for natural gas imports from Russia through Gazprombank. This exemption was introduced to ensure that Turkey’s payments were not affected by US sanctions against the company.
