The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced the fourth-quarter labor force statistics covering the period of October-December 2024. The unemployment rate in Turkey in the last quarter of 2024 was 8.6%. The number of unemployed decreased by 23 thousand people compared to the previous quarter, reaching 3 million 80 thousand people. The unemployment rate saw a decrease of 0.1 percentage points to 8.6%. The unemployment rate was estimated at 6.9% for men and 11.8% for women. EMPLOYMENT RATE AT 49.6% During this period, the number of employed increased by 141 thousand people compared to the previous quarter, reaching 32 million 755 thousand people, and the employment rate increased by 0.2 percentage points to 49.6%. This rate was 67% for men and 32.5% for women. LABOR FORCE PARTICIPATION RATE DECLINED The labor force increased by 118 thousand people in the fourth quarter of 2024, reaching 35 million 835 thousand people, and the labor force participation rate increased by 0.1 percentage points to 54.2%. The labor force participation rate was 72% for men and 36.8% for women. DECREASE IN YOUTH UNEMPLOYMENT The unemployment rate among the young population aged 15-24 decreased by 0.5 percentage points to 16.1% compared to the previous quarter. In this age group, the unemployment rate was estimated at 12.6% for men and 22.5% for women. UNDERUTILIZED LABOR FORCE RATE AT 28% The underutilized labor force rate, consisting of time-related underemployment, potential workforce, and unemployed individuals, increased by 1.4 percentage points to 28% in the same period. The integrated rate of time-related underemployment and the unemployed was 18.5%, while the integrated rate of potential workforce and the unemployed was estimated at 19.3%.
