The United Kingdom has announced a ban on personal imports of meat and dairy products from EU countries. The UK government stated that it has expanded the scope of the ban on personal imports of meat and dairy products due to the spread of foot-and-mouth disease on the continent. Starting today, passengers entering the UK are prohibited from bringing beef, lamb, goat, pork, and dairy products from EU countries. Items such as sandwiches, cheese, salami, raw meat, and milk, regardless of packaging or being purchased from duty-free shops, will fall under the ban. The British government indicated that this measure was taken to protect the country’s animal health, ensure farmers’ safety, and enhance food security. Earlier this month, Austria had closed its borders with Hungary and Slovakia due to the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak.
