Two Cement Companies Fined 619 Thousand Lira

Two cement companies operating in Hatay have been fined 618,937 lira for competition violations. The Competition Board decided to impose an administrative fine of 618,937 lira on two companies operating in the cement and ready-mixed concrete sector in Hatay. An announcement published on the Competition Authority’s website stated that the investigation into certain enterprises engaged in the production and sale of cement and ready-mixed concrete in Hatay has been concluded. During the investigation process, it was mentioned in the announcement that OYAK Cement Factories Inc., Kadir Soylu Concrete Iron Construction Petroleum Products Ind. and Trad. Ltd., MM Tiftik Kardeşler Transport Construction Real Estate Petroleum and Agriculture Products Marketing Ind. and Trad. Ltd., and Ekintaş Construction Industry and Trade Inc. had submitted settlement applications. It was also noted that an administrative fine of 110,564,108 lira was imposed on these enterprises by the Board. Furthermore, the announcement highlighted that oral defenses were received from Ceyhan Ready Mix Constr. Trans. Mine Petroleum Products Trd. Ind. Ltd., Çimko Cement and Concrete Industry Trade Inc., Filitoğlu Constr. Petroleum Food Tourism Trans. and Trad. Inc., and KÇS Kahramanmaraş Cement Concrete Mining Enterprises Inc. in March. It was stated that Ceyhan Ready Mix was found to have violated the relevant law by engaging in customer allocation in the market, while Filitoğlu was found to have violated the law by engaging in price fixing and customer allocation agreements in the ready-mixed concrete production and sales market. Accordingly, administrative fines of 515,861 lira and 103,076 lira were imposed on Ceyhan Ready Mix and Filitoğlu, respectively. However, since no evidence of law violations was found for Çimko Cement and KÇS, it was decided that no administrative fines would be imposed on these enterprises. As a result, a total of 618,937 lira in fines was imposed on the two aforementioned companies.
