Turkish Export to Germany Surpasses 24 Sectors’ External Sales

Germany, Turkey’s largest export market, surpassed the total external sales of 24 sectors with $1.6 billion in exports in January, leading in export in 7 categories. Despite the fragility in the European economy, the year began with an increase in exports to Germany, serving as a locomotive for Turkey’s exports. According to the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TIM) data, Germany ranked first among countries with the highest exports last month, reaching $1.6 billion. Exports to Germany increased by 2.1 percent in January compared to the same period last year. In January, $3 billion in exports were realized in the automotive industry, $2.5 billion in chemicals and products, $1.4 billion in ready-to-wear clothing, $1.3 billion in steel, $1.224 billion in electronics industry, $1.163 billion in jewelry sectors, $1.03 billion in cereals, legumes, oilseeds, and products, and $1.011 billion in iron and non-ferrous metals. Textile and raw materials had $827.1 million in exports, machinery and accessories had $791.9 million, furniture, paper, and forestry products had $609.8 million, and climate control industry had $590.1 million in external sales. Export to mining products, defense and aviation industry, fresh fruits and vegetables, cement, glass, ceramics, and soil with water products, animal products, carpets, fruit and vegetable products, hazelnut and its products, dried fruits and products, leather and leather products, tobacco, ship, yacht, and services, olives and olive oil, ornamental plants and products stayed below $500 million.
GERMANY IS THE EXPORT LEADER IN 7 CATEGORIES
Germany was the country with the highest exports in 7 categories, including iron and non-ferrous metals, leather and leather products, climate control industry, dried fruits and products, machinery and accessories, ready-to-wear clothing and automotive industry in January. Germany was the top export destination for the Turkish automotive industry, with $462.2 million, and also claimed the top spot in ready-to-wear clothing and textiles with $260.5 million in exports. Additionally, Germany led in iron and non-ferrous metals exports with $119 million. It was also first in exports of machinery and accessories with $84.2 million, climate control industry with $63.8 million, dried fruits and products with $21.6 million, and leather and leather products with $12.9 million.
US LEADS IN 5 CATEGORIES
The US ranked first in the carpet sector with $69.8 million, cement, glass, ceramics, and soil products with $52.6 million, fruit and vegetable products with $36.8 million, tobacco sector with $23 million, and olives and olive oil sector with $7.3 million in exports. Iraq led in exports of cereals, legumes, oilseeds, and products with $179 million and stood out with $91 million in furniture, paper, and forestry product exports. Russia took the top spot in fresh fruits and vegetables with $64.4 million and seafood and animal products exports with $28.9 million. Italy led in textile and raw materials with $70.6 million, hazelnuts and products with $58.1 million, Romania in steel with $106.6 million, United Kingdom in electronics and electrical equipment with $122.1 million, Norway in ship, yacht, and services with $47.5 million, Slovenia in chemicals and products with $170.3 million, China in mining products with $114.8 million, United Arab Emirates in jewelry with $607.8 million, and Azerbaijan in decorative plants and products with $4 million in exports.
