Turkey’s privatization revenue approaches 72 billion dollars

The revenue obtained from privatizations in Turkey reached 71.6 billion dollars between 1986 and 2024. According to the compilation from the Privatization Administration’s (PA) 2024 Activity Report, the revenue from privatizations in various fields last year amounted to 122 million dollars. A total of 69 tenders were held last year, marking a 35.3% annual increase compared to 2023. The privatization revenue, including contracts signed in 2024, was recorded at 4.1 billion dollars. The revenue generated from privatizations since 1986 amounted to 134.1 billion liras. In 2024, eight Presidential Decrees included various services and establishments in the scope and program of privatization. The transfer amount to the Treasury during the same period was realized as 276 million dollars. The Administration plans to continue privatizations in the coming period with the goal of creating an effective market mechanism, as in 2024. Preparatory work for the public offering of TEİAŞ has been extended until December 31, 2026, by Presidential Decree. The “custodianship activities” included in the privatization scope and program by Presidential Decree in 2021 aim to complete privatization transactions by December 31, 2025. It is envisaged that privatization transactions will be carried out by granting the right to operate, income partnership model, and other appropriate legal transaction methods separately or together, in accordance with the nature of the work.
