Turkey Wealth Fund Pays off Turkish Telecom’s Debt Early

The Wealth Fund has paid off the debt for Turkish Telecom’s credit early, resulting in saving more than 150 million dollars in interest. According to a statement from the Turkey Wealth Fund, strong cash flow and cost-effective financing sources enabled the Fund to have the opportunity to make an early payment on a loan for the acquisition of 55% of Turkish Telecom’s shares in 2022. The refinancing process for the credit used for Turkish Telecom in 2022 was successfully completed, resulting in an interest savings of over 150 million dollars. During this process, a total of 634 million dollars in credit debt, including the principal installment due in 2025, was paid off early, and the remaining balance was refinanced with a new credit of 750 million dollars with a 5-year term. With the new credit, the end-of-term balloon payment structure in the previous agreement was removed; installments were spread throughout the term, and the payment plan was adjusted to align with the Fund’s cash flow. Additionally, restrictions on revenues from Turkish Telecom under the old credit were lifted, allowing these revenues to be used freely.
