President Trump expressed that the tariffs imposed on Canada and Mexico, which were postponed for a month in exchange for increasing border security, will be implemented on time as planned. President Trump, during a press conference at the White House with French President Macron, also commented on the tariffs imposed on Canada and Mexico. When asked if the postponed tariffs on Canada and Mexico would be implemented, Trump responded, “The tariffs are progressing on time as planned.” Trump mentioned that not only Canada and Mexico, but many countries have treated the United States poorly, saying, “They took advantage of us.” He stated, “Anyone who let this happen to our country should be ashamed of themselves.” Describing this as a long-term abuse, Trump said, “I am not blaming other countries that did this. I blame our leaders for allowing this to happen. If they made such great deals with the U.S., benefited from the U.S., in production, almost in every aspect you could think of, who can blame them for that.” Trump emphasized that all they want is reciprocity. President Trump had signed an order on February 1st imposing a 25% additional tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico, and a 10% on imports from China. On February 3rd, Trump announced that the tariffs on Canada and Mexico were suspended for 30 days in exchange for increasing border security.
