Trump’s Economic Messages: “Tariffs Can Cause Discomfort”

President Donald Trump of the United States acknowledged that customs tariffs can cause discomfort. Emphasizing that they inherited an inflation nightmare, Trump called for tax cuts. In his first congressional speech of his second term, President Donald Trump delivered important messages about the economy. Stressing their determination to revive the American dream, Trump delivered the longest presidential speech in congressional history. Trump stated that one of their most important priorities is to save the economy, mentioning they inherited an economic disaster and an inflation nightmare from the previous administration. “As President, I fight every day to reverse this damage and make America affordable again,” he said. TARGET TO LOWER ENERGY COSTS Trump highlighted that lowering energy costs is one of the main focuses of their fight against inflation. $5 MILLION FOR U.S. CITIZENSHIP Mentioning the Gold Card program, Trump said, “With this card that will be available for sale for $5 million, we will allow the world’s most successful job creators from all over the world to buy their way to U.S. citizenship.” HISTORIC STEP FOR CRITICAL MINERALS Trump stated, “This week, I will take a historic step to significantly increase the production of critical minerals and rare earth elements in the United States.” FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION Trump emphasized that they will also put an end to the waste of taxpayers’ money. Mentioning the establishment of the Department of Government Efficiency for this purpose, Trump stated that they found billions of dollars of corruption and reclaimed most of that money. CALL FOR TAX CUTS Trump stated that they want permanent tax cuts on all income, mentioning that tips, overtime pay, and social security payments should not be taxed. As part of the tax cuts, Trump expressed their desire to reduce taxes on domestic production and all manufacturing. TARIFFS CAN CAUSE DISCOMFORT Trump also addressed customs tariffs in his speech, reiterating that reciprocal tariffs will come into effect on April 2. Emphasizing that tariffs are related to making America rich and great again, Trump stated, “There will be some discomfort, but we have no problem with that. It won’t be too much.” Trump mentioned that starting from April 2, tariffs will also be applied to agricultural products coming to the U.S., saying, “There might be a little adjustment period.” “CHIP LAW SHOULD BE CANCELED” Describing the CHIPS Law implemented during former President Biden’s term to increase domestic semiconductor production as a “terrible thing,” Trump said, “We are giving away billions of dollars, and it doesn’t make any sense. They take our money and don’t spend it.” Trump argued that the U.S. should get rid of this law. WE WILL TAKE BACK THE PANAMA CANAL Trump announced that a major American company will purchase two ports around the Panama Canal. Trump emphasized that they will take back the Panama Canal, saying, “My administration will take back the Panama Canal, and we have already started doing that.” CALL TO GREENLAND Trump made a call to the people of Greenland, saying, “We strongly support your right to determine your own future. If you choose, we welcome you to the United States.”
