Trump Threatens EU with 200% Import Tax on Alcohol

President Trump has threatened the European Union with a 200% customs tax on all imported alcoholic products. Donald Trump, the President of the United States, announced that if the 50% customs tax imposed on whiskeys produced in the country is not removed soon, he will implement a 200% customs tax on all alcoholic products imported from the EU. Trump made the announcement regarding the 50% customs tax rate the EU imposed on whiskeys imported from the United States on his Truth Social account. Describing the EU as “the world’s most hostile and exploitative taxation authority,” Trump reiterated his view that the EU was “established to benefit from the United States.” Reminding that the EU had decided to impose a 50% customs tax on American-produced whiskeys, Trump stated, “If this tariff is not removed immediately, the United States will apply a 200% tariff on all wine, champagne, and alcoholic products coming from France and other EU countries in a short period of time. This will be great for wine and champagne businesses in the United States.”
