Transfer of the flag in the skies by the eyes of the Gendarmerie

The J11 numbered aircraft of Turkey’s first UCAV, Bayraktar TB2, has completed its flight time of 1 million hours in the sky. The UCAV which completed its mission period will now be used as a training and test aircraft within Baykar. The J11 numbered aircraft, included in the fleet of Bayraktar TB2 as Turkey’s first UCAV to exceed 1 million hours of flight experience, successfully completed its 10,000 hours of flight time after entering service in 2016. According to the statement made by Baykar, the Bayraktar TB2 J11 UCAV, which has been serving successfully in critical missions such as counterterrorism, public security, border security, search and rescue, and protection of strategic infrastructure since joining the Gendarmerie General Command inventory, completed 10,000 flight hours with 868 successful sorties. Baykar presented a certificate to the command in memory of the superior contributions of the J11 numbered Bayraktar TB2 UCAV that was defined as the eye of the Gendarmerie in the skies. The J11 numbered Bayraktar TB2 UCAV which will now be used as a training and test aircraft within Baykar after completing this crucial mission, was replaced by a new Bayraktar TB2 with the J60 tail number that came out of the production line and was gifted to the Gendarmerie General Command. The Bayraktar TB2 UCAV, which was removed from inventory, undertook critical roles in missions such as counterterrorism for 8370 hours, countering smuggling and narcotics for 246 hours, monitoring social incidents for 107 hours, border security for 1012 hours, search and rescue for 151 hours, and protection of strategic infrastructure for 114 hours. The Bayraktar TB2 UCAVs, which entered service in 2014 with a local production rate of 93% and operated around the world, successfully completed 1 million hours of flight time in December 2024. Thus, the national aircraft Bayraktar TB2 became the longest flying aircraft in Turkish aviation history. Bayraktar TB2 UCAVs serve under the Ministry of National Defense, National Intelligence Organization, Gendarmerie General Command, General Directorate of Security, Coast Guard Command, and the General Directorate of Forestry for the purpose of combating forest fires. The Bayraktar TB2, the owner of important records in aviation history, broke the altitude record in Turkey in its class with 27,030 feet. The national UCAV, which signed another record by flying continuously for 27 hours and 3 minutes in tough geographical and climatic conditions such as high temperature and sandstorm during a demo flight in Kuwait on July 16, 2019. The national UCAV Bayraktar TB2, which achieved the barrel roll maneuver successfully in test flights on May 31, 2024, became the first and only UCAV in the world to perform this important evasive maneuver of combat jets that no other UCAV has accomplished before. In addition to the critical roles it undertakes in Turkey’s fight against terrorism, the national UCAV Bayraktar TB2 has proven its superior performance in international operations it has participated in. Serving all over the world, the national UCAVs played a vital role in wars in Libya, Ukraine, Mali, Burkina Faso, as well as ending the 30-year occupation of Karabakh. Developed nationally and originally by Baykar, the Bayraktar TB2 UCAVs have managed to enter the inventories of countries after competitive processes in many parts of the world. Debuted as the winner of the competitive process conducted by the Kuwait Ministry of Defense last year, Bayraktar TB2 signed an important export contract by surpassing American, European, and Chinese competitors. This success reinforced Baykar’s global influence, further solidifying its presence in NATO and EU countries in 2024. As a result of the agreement signed with Croatia on November 19, 2024, Bayraktar TB2 entered the inventories of 6 NATO member countries and 4 EU member countries. In addition to security missions, national UCAVs play an active role in civilian tasks such as disasters like earthquakes and floods, search and rescue operations, monitoring irregular migration, and fighting forest fires. The Bayraktar TB2 UAVs that participated in the earthquake centered in Sivrice, Elazığ on January 24, 2020, served for 6,060 minutes in earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023. A total of 8 Baykar Fast Mapping Pods integrated with a total of 42 Bayraktar TB2 participated in these operations. In the context of forest fire fighting, between 2020 and 2024, 4091 fires were detected and extinguished immediately by Bayraktar TB2 UAVs without growing. Carrying out all its projects with its own resources from the beginning to the present, Baykar obtained 83% of its total revenue from exports since the beginning of the UAV R&D process in 2003. Baykar, which achieved $1.8 billion in exports in 2023, ranked among the top 10 companies with the highest exports in all sectors in Turkey. Being the largest unmanned aerial vehicle exporter in the world, Baykar continued its global success in 2024 and achieved $1.8 billion in exports by obtaining 90% of its revenues from exports. Having won the Champions of Export Award, Baykar was the export leader of the defense and aviation sector according to the data of the Presidency of Defense Industry and the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly (TİM) in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Having realized one-third of the sector’s exports alone in 2023, Baykar took the lead in the total exports of defense and aviation sector alone by realizing one-fourth of the total exports in the sector in 2024, positioning Turkey as a leader in the global UCAV export market. The existing contracts of Baykar, the world’s largest unmanned aerial vehicle company, were 97.5% export-oriented. A total of 34 countries for Bayraktar TB2 UCAV and 11 countries for Bayraktar AKINCI TİHA have signed export agreements so far, totaling 36 countries.
