Tariff Quota with 5% Duty for Corn Imports

The Ministry of Trade has opened a tariff quota with a 5% duty on corn imports, not exceeding 1 million tons until June 30th to prevent supply security and price increase risks for corn production.

The decision regarding the implementation of the ‘Decision on the Application of Tariff Quota for Corn Imports’ was published in the Official Gazette with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In a written statement issued by the Ministry of Trade on the matter, it was stated: “Our Ministry of Trade, evaluating producer and consumer welfare together by directing markets correctly to prevent speculative prices, ensure supply security, and meet the country’s needs through the promotion of domestic production, takes necessary precautions by using all trade policy tools in coordination with relevant institutions, primarily the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. To ensure supply security and price stability for corn, which is an important production input for meat, as well as some other food products, in order to prevent adverse effects on food prices, a tariff quota with a 5% duty has been opened for the portion of corn consumption that exceeds the domestic production capacity, up to 1 million tons to be used by June 30, 2025.”

It was also mentioned in the statement that starting from July 1, the customs duty for corn imports will be reapplied as 130%, while the limited customs duty for a certain amount of product will end on July 1, 2025, and the customs duty for corn imports will be applied at its original level of 130%. In order to ensure fair utilization of the tariff quota, a single user will be able to import a maximum of 8,000 tons at once, and there will be a 7-day waiting period for subsequent imports.
