The Competition Authority has taken action on red meat prices before the month of Ramadan. President Birol Küle stated, “We are warning all sectors, and if necessary, we will expand our inspections.”

President of the Competition Authority, Birol Küle, issued a warning regarding price fluctuations in the red meat sector before the month of Ramadan by stating, “We will expand our inspections to involve more parties if necessary.” Küle evaluated the work carried out by the Competition Authority in the red meat sector. He pointed out that inspections in the red meat market have two dimensions, indicating that both institution specialists conduct surprise inspections in companies and continuously monitor and analyze prices. President Küle stated that with increasing examination and penalty applications for the agriculture and food sector, “We are warning all sectors about price fluctuations before the month of Ramadan, and if necessary, we will expand our inspections to involve more parties. Ensuring our citizens access food at reasonable prices is among our priorities.” He used the following words: “WE ARE CLOSELY MONITORING ALL STAKEHOLDERS” Küle recalled that companies operating in the sector and some union presidents made statements about prices before Ramadan, and continued his words as follows: “We observe that manipulative statements about red meat prices are made through social media. We are closely monitoring all sector stakeholders. I want to warn all parties to stay away from behaviors that may cause price increases through certain actions outside the supply-demand balance.” President Küle emphasized that manipulative price fluctuations not related to costs and behaviors that could cause them violate the Law on Protection of Competition, stating, “Our fines can reach very high amounts. Therefore, all stakeholders in the sector should set their prices based solely on their costs and without any other influence.”
