Strong Foreign Purchases in the Stock Market

Foreign investors bought $480 million worth of shares last week, marking the highest stock purchase by foreigners in the past 1.5 years. The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) published its weekly securities statistics. Foreign residents made a net purchase of $480.1 million in shares in the week of 14 March. This figure represents the highest stock purchase since August 2023. During the same week, foreign investors acquired $1.465.3 billion worth of Government Domestic Debt Securities (DİBS) and $2.6 million worth of assets outside General Government Sector (ÖST). Demand for DİBS also reached its highest levels in four weeks. As of 7 March, foreign residents’ stock of shares, which was $34.547.6 billion, rose to $35.800.6 billion in the week of 14 March. During the same period, foreign residents’ DİBS stock increased from $19.623.6 billion to $20.875.4 billion, while ÖST stocks decreased from $740.1 million to $739.3 million.
