Striking Allegation Regarding Milk: “Should Be Urgently Removed from Shelves”

Dairy producers expressed their concerns about low-fat milk sold in supermarkets. Claiming that milk with a fat content of one in a thousand harms human health, producers called for the removal of these products from the shelves. Dairy producers opposed the sale of low-fat milk with a low fat content in the market. Cihat Şimşek, Vice President of the Central Union of Turkish Milk Producers, criticized the 0.1 (One in a thousand) fat milk placed on the shelves since November. Claiming that milk with one in a thousand fat content is harmful to human health, Şimşek stated, “You can’t make cheese or yogurt from this milk. It has no fat content. It is used for watering purposes.” Pointing out that industrialists give premiums based on fat content when buying milk, Şimşek said, “One in a thousand fat milk means zero fat. They declare the fat they couldn’t extract from it as one in a thousand. Its price is also lower compared to other types.” Şimşek emphasized the lower price of these milks and stated, “We demand the removal of these products resembling milk in color but of poor quality, akin to water used for irrigation, from the shelves.” Dairy producers also called for the closure of companies that have been listed multiple times for adulteration and fraud.
