Buying activity accelerated on the first trading day of the week in the stock market. The rise in the BIST 100 index exceeded 3%.

In Borsa Istanbul, the BIST 100 index started the week at 9,167 points, up 1.35%.

Following the opening, the BIST 100 index appreciated by 3% surpassing 9,300 points. The rise in the banking index exceeded 4%. Among the sector indices, transportation was the highest gainer with 2.52%, while textiles leather experienced the most loss with 1.39%. Last week, the BIST 100 index tested 9,000 points with a drop of over 15%.

SHORT SELLING PROHIBITED
Due to possible market volatility, certain measures were implemented yesterday. Short selling was prohibited for one month in Borsa Istanbul, and decisions facilitating share buybacks were announced. The order-to-trade ratio (OTR) was reduced from 5:1 to 3:1 between March 24, 2025, and April 25, 2025 (until the end of the session). The threshold value for order-to-trade ratio excess fee was increased from 0.25 TL to 0.50 TL starting from March 24, 2025. This practice aims to narrow down algorithmic trading transactions.
