Stock market opens with gains

The BIST 100 index began the day with a 0.43% increase at 10,625.38 points in Borsa Istanbul.

Positive trend continues in Borsa Istanbul. At the opening, the BIST 100 index rose by 45.12 points and 0.43% to reach 10,625.38 points compared to the previous closing.

The banking index gained 0.27%, while the holding index increased by 0.36%. Among sector indices, the communication sector was the top gainer with 0.98%, while the securities investment partnership was the biggest loser with 0.39%. Yesterday, BIST 100 index closed the day with a 1.36% gain at 10,580.26 points, following an upward trend in the domestic market. Global markets continue to seek direction amidst concerns over the protectionist trade policy of US President Donald Trump.

Locally, attention is focused on today’s publication of the summary of the Turkey Republic Central Bank (CBRT) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting. Last week, CBRT reduced the policy rate for weekly repo auctions by 250 basis points to 42.50%. CBRT President Fatih Karahan emphasized that they will do whatever it takes to reach the year-end inflation target of 24%, without letting demand conditions disrupt the disinflation process. Karahan attributed the recent decline in inflation not only to base effects but also to the impact of a tight monetary policy on the overall downward trend.

In addition to these developments, Borsa Istanbul decided to implement an upward tick rule for short selling transactions in stocks listed on the BIST 50 Index throughout today’s session. Analysts noted that technically, 10,700 and 10,750 points are resistance levels, with 10,600 and 10,500 levels serving as support for the BIST 100 index.
