Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, expressed his reaction to companies selling concrete at exorbitant prices in earthquake areas. Kurum stated, “If they are pouring concrete for 5 thousand TL, then shut them down.”

During his visit to Malatya, Minister Murat Kurum evaluated the work in earthquake areas. Leading a coordination meeting at Malatya Metropolitan Municipality, Minister Kurum criticized companies selling a cubic meter of concrete for 5 thousand liras in earthquake zones.

“YOU TURN INTO STEEL, CAN’T POUR CONCRETE” Minister Kurum questioned, “Can concrete cost 5 thousand liras? If they are willing to provide concrete at this price, we can use steel instead. Solve this issue. Some are providing concrete for a normal price of 1800 liras. Let’s say 2200 is normal. 2500 liras is too much. But 5 thousand liras is unacceptable. If it reaches 5 thousand liras, we will turn to steel and won’t be able to pour 1 cubic meter of concrete. I won’t pay more than 3000 liras for concrete there. Solve it within the limit, or I’ll use steel.”

“LET’S RESOLVE WITHIN A WEEK” Minister Kurum emphasized, “There will be no profiteering in the upcoming earthquake, this is unacceptable,” then turned to Malatya Governor Seddar Yavuz and stated, “If they are pouring concrete for 5 thousand TL, shut them down. Let’s resolve this within a week.”
