Regulation to Reduce Bills by 25%

A new insulation application that will increase energy efficiency in buildings will begin tomorrow. The regulation aims to achieve a decrease of up to 25% in energy bills. The Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) has revised the “TS 825- Thermal Insulation Rules for Buildings Standard” to increase energy savings in buildings and minimize heat losses, which will be mandatory starting tomorrow. This standard, revised by TSE for energy efficiency purposes on October 21, 2024, has been updated.
HEATING COSTS WILL DECREASE
The updates in the standard were made in line with sector needs and technological advancements. Through evaluations conducted with contributions from public institutions, civil society organizations, and industry experts, the scope of TS 825 was expanded. The new regulation aims to reduce heating and cooling costs, use energy resources more efficiently, and contribute to environmental sustainability.
INCREASED INSULATION ZONE NUMBER
The insulation classification, previously divided into 4 zones, has been expanded to 6 zones taking into account climate conditions. With the regulation coming into effect on April 1st, insulation calculations for buildings have been revised according to regional climate conditions. Rules covering everything from the thermal performance of buildings to floor heat transfer, heating and cooling needs, surface temperatures, and building materials are included in the standards set by TSE.
ENERGY BILLS TO DROP BY 25%
Thus, it is anticipated that there will be a reduction of up to 25% in energy bills while maintaining comfort conditions in buildings. Additionally, the goal is to achieve a total energy saving of 2.5 terawatt hours in newly constructed buildings each year and to provide a gain equivalent to three months of energy production from the Atatürk Dam. Furthermore, significant contributions will be made to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions by 600 million tons annually.
The revised TS 825 standard aims to accurately calculate the net heating and cooling energy needs of buildings and optimize energy losses and gains. This will minimize energy consumption, reduce costs for individual users, and enhance energy efficiency nationwide.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE NATIONAL ECONOMY
The goal of the new regulations is to make significant contributions not only to individual consumers but also to the national economy. By increasing thermal insulation, energy efficiency will be achieved, reducing external dependency. At the same time, citizens will experience economic relief by paying lower energy bills. From an environmental perspective, reducing carbon emissions will be a crucial step towards a sustainable future.
