Red meat price hike denied by butchers’ association

Denial of the allegations of a price hike on red meat has been issued. Istanbul Butchers Association President Tüfekçi stated that prices have been frozen until the end of Ramadan and there will be no price increase. Contrary to news claiming a 10-15% price hike on red meat before Ramadan, sector representatives have denied it. Providing information to NTV, Istanbul Butchers Association President Aydın Tüfekçi mentioned that producers requested a price hike but as traders, they rejected it. Tüfekçi stated, “Supermarkets have already made an agreement with the Meat and Milk Institution, there will be no price hike until the end of Ramadan.” Member supermarkets of Istanbul Food and Necessities Retailers Association (Istanbul PERDER) and Ankara Food and Necessities Retailers Association had announced two weeks ago that red meat prices are fixed until the end of Ramadan. Accordingly, ground beef will be sold at 379 lira and diced meat at 399 lira until the end of Ramadan.
