Record Revenue from German Football Clubs

In Germany, the revenues of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 football clubs reached a record 5.87 billion euros in the 2023-2024 season, marking a 12% increase. The total revenues of clubs competing in the German First Football League Bundesliga for the 2023-2024 season have been disclosed. The German professional football continued its growth trend by reaching record figures in revenue, taxes and fees, employment, and number of spectators. The revenue of the 36 clubs in the leagues for the 2023-2024 season increased by 12% from the previous season, reaching a total of 5.87 billion euros. The previous record was broken in the 2022-2023 season with 5.24 billion euros. It is noteworthy that German Second Football League (Bundesliga 2) clubs surpassed the 1 billion euro revenue threshold for the first time. In the 2023-2024 season, only 9 clubs in the first league and 8 clubs in the second league were profitable. During the same season, a separate record was set by employing 62 thousand people through clubs. This resulted in a transfer of 1.66 billion euros to the state treasury, including taxes and fees. The increasing interest from spectators contributed to clubs’ ticket sales figures, with a record of 20.7 million tickets sold in the previous season.
