Record broken in cargo transportation

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Uraloğlu, announced that the number of cargo shipments carried in 2024 exceeded 1.38 billion, breaking a record. Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulgadir Uraloğlu stated that the number of shipments, which was 681.3 million in the same period of the previous year, increased by 9.6% in the second half of 2024 to approximately 746.68 million. Making a statement regarding the Turkey Postal Sector Market Data Report for the second half of 2024 published by the Information Technologies and Communication Authority (BTK), Uraloğlu used the expression “In 2024, the total transported mail cargo exceeded 1.38 billion, breaking all-time record with an 8.3% increase compared to 2023.” Uraloğlu reported that there were 52 authorized service providers in the sector, with 25 national and 37 local authorizations granted to these providers. He informed that Istanbul was the city with the highest number of authorizations at the local level with 24 authorizations, followed by Izmir with 5 authorizations and Ankara with 4 authorizations. Uraloğlu indicated that as of the second half of last year, a total of 10,992 postal agencies and branches were operating nationwide in Turkey, with 1,955 in Istanbul, 753 in Ankara, and 576 in Izmir. He also noted that the postal sector provided employment for over 122,000 people. Minister Uraloğlu mentioned that approximately 3% of the shipments were delivered on the same day, while 80% were delivered within 2 days.
