Production in Sakarya Gas Field to Increase Fivefold

Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Bayraktar, announced that production in the Sakarya Gas Field will increase fivefold by 2028. Making statements on the energy agenda, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stressed the importance of independence in energy. According to a statement from the Ministry, Bayraktar, who attended an iftar program organized by the National Turkish Student Union yesterday, said, “Energy independence is a national security issue for us.” He noted that the Sakarya Gas Field meets the gas needs of 3 million households, adding, “Hopefully, we will reach a milestone in April. We will increase the current production by 25%. By producing five times the current amount of gas in 2028, we will be providing Turkey’s gas used in homes from our gas.” Bayraktar also stated, “Our goal in Gabar is to exceed 100,000 barrels.” Mentioning that 92% of the oil is imported, Bayraktar explained, “There is currently intense work going on in Gabar, which is known for terrorism. Despite the mountains hardly accessible due to terrorism, over 90 wells are in operation. We have become capable of producing 80,000 barrels of oil per day. Here, we produce the highest quality oil in Turkey. With the permission of Allah, we will exceed 100,000 barrels.” Bayraktar also mentioned that Turkey has become a country searching for natural gas and minerals in Somalia, Libya, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Africa. He reported that they aim to produce nearly 3.5 tons of gold from the first gold mine in Niger by 2026.
