Producer Prices Decline in the USA

In the USA, producer prices rose by less than expected in March, increasing by 2.7% annually. The Producer Price Index (PPI) also decreased by 0.4% monthly.

The inflation data for producers and consumers in the shadow of tariffs were released in the USA.

While the Producer Price Index (PPI) fell by 0.4% monthly in March, it rose by 2.7% annually, lower than expectations. Expectations were pointing towards a 0.3% monthly decrease. The PPI exhibited a negative trend for the first time since October 2023 on a monthly basis. In March, producer prices increased by 2.7% annually, marking the lowest producer inflation level since September of last year.

Market expectations were for the annual producer inflation to be 3.3% last month. The annual increase in PPI was recorded at 3.2% in February.

The PPI provides clues about final product prices and headline inflation by measuring the prices of inputs used in production. The Federal Reserve in the USA tracks all inflation indicators, including PPI.

Consumer price inflation in the country also came in below expectations in March, with an annual inflation rate of 2.4%. Consumer prices experienced their first monthly decline since May 2020.
