Price pressure in tourism: Has Turkey become expensive?

Tourism professionals are saying this year Turkey has become more expensive compared to competing countries. Industry officials express that the recent increase in the euro exchange rate will somewhat strengthen their position. Facing pressure on prices, tourism professionals gathered to discuss the current situation in the sector. At a meeting organized by the Professional Hotel Managers Association (POYD), current issues were addressed. POYD President Hakan Saatçioğlu stated, “Unfortunately, due to exchange rate pressure, we have become expensive from abroad. With the increase in exchange rates, we will have some room for action.” According to industry representatives, Turkey has become more expensive than the countries it competes with in tourism. Prices have surpassed those in countries like Egypt and Tunisia by a significant margin. Turkey has even bypassed countries like Spain, Italy, and Greece. Saatçioğlu mentioned, “The increase in the exchange rate will strengthen our position. Economic difficulties are not only in Turkey, as it is a global issue, every customer wants to get the best service at the best price during their holiday.” The new tourism season is expected to begin in May.
