While Silifke, Mersin’s first green almond harvest of the year is taking place, the almonds are being exported to Dubai due to a fifty percent decrease in yield. The gathered green almonds are being sold for 200 lira per kilo, organically grown specifically for commercial purposes in coastal areas. The green almonds, sold at 200 lira per kilo, are bringing joy to growers as sales started 15 days earlier compared to previous years. Without the use of chemicals or fertilizers, the green almonds are cultivated entirely naturally and organically. The headman of Işıklı Neighborhood, Ramazan Güner, mentioned an expected yield of 50 to 80 tons and stated, “There is a high demand for green almonds from the public, which is pleasing for our sales. As it is the first harvest of the season, the prices are a bit high, leading almond enthusiasts to purchase based on grams rather than kilos. We anticipate that as the harvest of green almonds increases in the coming days, prices will decrease. Due to agricultural frost, we have encountered a fifty percent yield loss. The gathered green almonds are being exported to Dubai, domestically and internationally, at 200 lira per kilo.”
