SOLD AT 15 TL LAST YEAR In Istanbul, Ankara, and Antalya, a 250-gram Ramadan pita was sold for 15 lira.

SET AT 25 TL IN SOME DISTRICTS OF EDIRNE

As Ramadan draws near in Edirne, bakers have started their preparations for the pita rush. The prices of pitas in Edirne have been determined. A 300-gram pita will be sold for 25 TL. Bakers in Edirne have requested an increase in pita prices. Chairman of the Edirne Chamber of Craftsmen and Artisans, Kemal Cingöz, explained that prices for pitas are set according to the conditions of the day. Cingöz mentioned that the price of a 350-gram pita in Edirne will be confirmed at 30 TL, “In some districts, the price of a 300-gram pita has been set at 25 TL. The price we are currently providing is for plain pita, with no distinction between with or without eggs. This is due to the cost of one egg being 8 liras. This affects costs and hence prices. Customers wanting egg pita can pay the difference to have it made with eggs. Regarding bread, there have been no changes. We have informed the Ministry about the price, but have not received any response yet. There is no talk of increasing bread prices. The determination of new prices could take up to 3 months. In many other provinces, prices of bread have been raised. Like Edirne, around 15-20 provinces have not raised the price of bread. That is why Edirne stands out as one of the provinces where bread is currently the cheapest. Apart from bread, there is currently no demand for a price increase from any other sector. I am not sure if there will be a request for a price increase during Ramadan. However, due to the low purchasing power of the citizens, the tradesmen are not in favor of raising prices.”
