Connecting online to the 2025 World Government Summit held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE), Pichai evaluated the latest technological advancements. Expressing his close monitoring of developments in artificial intelligence, Pichai mentioned that the AI model DeepSeek developed by a Chinese startup demonstrates that artificial intelligence is a global technology. He emphasized the excitement and pivotal moments in this field worldwide, stating, “I believe what caught people’s attention with DeepSeek was the efficient model, accurate and openly accessible source that everyone can immediately reach. I can say that the DeepSeek team did an excellent job. In this regard, efficiency is a topic we are focused on, and this service needs to be very efficient.” Pichai stated his expectation for his company to be one of the leading players in the artificial intelligence field but also acknowledged the presence of other companies in the sector. Reflecting on his intense focus on artificial intelligence in recent times, Pichai mentioned, “Sometimes when I return to the company after a few weeks of travel, the first place I visit is the team working on artificial intelligence. I ask them what progress they have made in these few weeks of my absence; usually, two weeks are quite a short time to make progress in this area, but I am very curious.”
