Pistachio Trees Cultivated in Siirt and Exported to Europe: Annual Production Exceeds 1 Million, Boosting the Region’s Development

A facility in Siirt produces over 1 million pistachio seedlings annually, meeting the region’s pistachio needs. Not only do the seedlings grown in Siirt satisfy the local demand for pistachios, but they are also sent to various regions in Turkey. Located on the Siirt Baykan highway, the facility produces over 1 million pistachio seedlings a year, establishing Siirt as a significant center for pistachio production. Hamza Keleş, a pistachio seedling grower, stated that he started this business in 2000, saying:
“Our father was a farmer, so we continue farming. Since 2000, we have produced an estimated 25 million pistachios. This year, our production is 1.5 million seedlings. We are very pleased with the production and employment opportunities. We struggle to find workers. It has significant economic returns. Our seedlings are not only shipped to Eastern Anatolia, but also to many provinces in Turkey and even abroad, which makes me happy.”
Worker Ahmet Can, emphasizing that high-quality pistachios are produced in Siirt, said, “Siirt generally distributes the most pistachios to this region. The highest quality pistachios of these regions are produced here. Generally, every part of Turkey prefers this place. The pistachios we produce here are very fruitful. In fact, the mature pistachio trees grown here are often exported to Europe.”
