Partnership Agreement in UAV Technologies between Baykar and Italian Leonardo

An agreement on partnership in unmanned technologies was signed between Baykar, Turkey’s leading unmanned aerial vehicle manufacturer, and Leonardo, one of Europe’s largest defense companies. With this agreement, Baykar aims to strengthen its position in the European market, while Leonardo is expected to start manufacturing both manned and unmanned aircraft. Leonardo has been involved in developing a new generation combat aircraft within the Global Combat Air Program (GCAP) alongside British BAE Systems and Japanese JAIEC. Previously, Baykar acquired the Italian aerospace giant Piaggio Aerospace, indicating its intention to expand employment at Piaggio’s Italian facilities. Stefano Pontecorvo, the president of Italy’s leading aviation and defense industry company, Leonardo, praised Baykar during his visit to Baykar’s production center in Istanbul, emphasizing the strong complementarity between the technologies of Leonardo and Baykar. Pontecorvo expressed confidence that the collaboration process would progress swiftly, hinting at potentially positive news regarding cooperation with Piaggio Aerospace that Baykar has acquired. He noted the prestige of partnering with such renowned Italian company and the promising prospect of returning to the region through a successful partnership.
