Number of income tax payers exceeded 2.6 million

In Turkey, the number of income tax payers surpassed 2.6 million in 2024. The number of corporate tax payers approached 1.2 million. According to the compilation from the Revenue Administration’s (GİB) data, the number of income tax payers in Turkey increased by 5.2% in 2024 compared to the previous year, reaching 2,606,489. As of December last year, the number of active taxpayers subject to tax types other than income tax under the simplified regime showed an annual increase. The number of income tax payers as of December 2024 increased by 128,355 compared to 2023, reaching 2,606,489, with an increase rate of 5.2%. Among these taxpayers, 649,759 are registered in Istanbul, 188,080 in Ankara, and 175,120 in Izmir. The number of corporate tax payers also increased by 48,031 during the same period, reaching 1,191,375, with a 4.2% increase. There was an increase in the number of taxpayers earning income from rent. The number of income withholding tax payers increased by 189,113 last year compared to 2023, reaching 4,151,166. The increase rate in this category was calculated as 4.8%. The number of VAT taxpayers also reached 3,705,178 in this period with an increase of 152,880, and the increase rate was 4.3%. The audits conducted by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance on property owners earning rental income also reflected in the number of taxpayers. The number of real estate capital income (RCCI – rental income tax) payers increased by 443,916 to reach 2,710,366 last year, with an increase of 19.6%. The number of income tax payers taxed under the simplified regime decreased by 1.4% to 821,849 during that period.
