Non-farm employment in the US fell below expectations in January, increasing by 143,000. The unemployment rate in the country dropped from 4.1% to 4%. Average hourly earnings also rose by 0.5%, exceeding estimates.

Non-farm employment in the US increased by 143,000 in January, falling short of expectations. It was expected that non-farm employment would be around 170,000.

According to the data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the November employment figure was revised to 261,000, with an increase of 49,000, and the December figure was revised to 307,000, with an increase of 51,000.

The unemployment rate in the country dropped to 4%. Expectations were for the unemployment rate to remain steady at 4.1%. The number of unemployed individuals decreased by 37,000, dropping to 6.489 million.

Average hourly earnings increased to $35.87 in January, rising by 0.5%. Hourly earnings exceeded expectations by 0.3%.
