No Passage for Exorbitant Prices: Heavy Fines for Pirate Transportation

During the holiday season, businesses engaged in exorbitant pricing and pirate transportation were fined a total of 37 million 400 thousand 120 lira.
Inspections continued throughout the Ramadan holiday.
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, reported that inspections were carried out without interruption to prevent exorbitant ticket sales on intercity buses during the Ramadan holiday. Uraloğlu emphasized that operators who did not comply with the fee schedules reported to the Ministry were individually inspected and necessary administrative fines were imposed, stating, “Ministry teams and law enforcement agencies worked in cooperation. In addition to electronic inspections, we conducted inspections at passenger terminals, roadsides, and highway inspection stations. Prior to and during the holiday season, we inspected 2,377 businesses and 63,113 bus trips for intercity bus travel.”
“37 MILLION 400 THOUSAND 120 LIRA FINE” Uraloğlu drew attention to the high intensity of intercity bus travel during the Ramadan holiday, stating, “From March 10 to April 6, 8,347 processes resulted in fines totaling 37 million 400 thousand 120 lira.” Indicating that Ministry inspections do not only cover the holiday period, Uraloğlu noted that inspections of buses nationwide continue effectively to prevent exorbitant ticket sales and ensure order in passenger transportation.
