New regulation for foreign-plated vehicles

There is a new regulation concerning vehicles with foreign plates. Under this regulation, foreign-plated vehicles entering Turkey will not be allowed to leave the country without paying the fees and fines they owe to privately operated highways. AK Party deputies are preparing to submit a new bill to the Parliament. The bill aims to prevent the passage of foreign-plated vehicles through private highways without paying toll fees. It has been determined that these vehicles, without a legal framework, leave Turkey without paying toll fees after using privately operated highways. The exploit of leaving the country without paying fees after passing through private highways with fixed addresses in Turkey has been identified. Following an increase in the number of foreign-plated vehicles passing through toll booths illegally, a proposal has been submitted to the Turkish Parliament to amend Article 30 of the Highways Transportation Law. Thus, if toll fees are not paid after passing through the highways operated by the General Directorate of Highways, a similar practice will be implemented for foreign-plated vehicles by private companies. Penalties and toll fees will be collected at customs. Foreign-plated vehicles will not be allowed to leave the country without paying fines and toll fees. These amounts can be collected by authorized units at customs gates without the need for notifications, by informing the driver. Sixty percent of the collected amount will be recorded as a service fee in the general budget, and the remaining forty percent will be transferred to the General Directorate by the end of the following month to be transferred to the relevant operator.
