New Decision for Municipal Shelter Expenses

Municipalities that spend too much on animal shelters will be able to request 40% of the amount spent from the Treasury. A new decision has been made regarding the expenses made by municipalities for animal shelters. The principles regarding the use of the source that municipalities are obliged to allocate to establish animal shelters as brought by temporary Article 4 of the animal protection law were determined in the general communiqué of the Directorate General of Accounting published in today’s Official Gazette. In the communiqué, reference was made to the obligation of metropolitan municipalities to allocate 3% and other municipalities to allocate 5% of their relevant year budgets to establish animal care centers, carry out rehabilitation procedures, and take care of stray animals until they are adopted. It was stated that municipalities exceeding this rate can request 40% of the excess amount spent from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance. It was noted that the amount that can be requested shall not exceed 40% of these rates in any way.
