Elon Musk and OpenAI have reached an agreement to expedite the legal process regarding the transition of the artificial intelligence company to a for-profit entity. They have taken the first step by requesting a joint hearing to be held.

In a motion to the court made by both parties, they requested a joint hearing to accelerate the lawsuit regarding the transition of OpenAI to a for-profit structure. The decision of whether the case will be heard by a jury or just a judge has been postponed to a later date. The court had previously denied Musk’s request in March to halt the transition of his AI group to a for-profit model. In a statement from OpenAI, they expressed their pleasure at the court’s decision on March 4, which rejected Elon Musk’s attempt to slow down OpenAI for his personal interests.

Musk had filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, claiming that he abandoned the organization’s mission of developing artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity without pursuing profit and alleging that the company violated its founding contract. OpenAI had also published a series of emails and messages supporting Musk’s endorsement of a for-profit structure for his AI venture in 2017.

Musk had offered $97 billion to acquire OpenAI, but the offer was declined.
