Ministry Monitoring Four Giants in the Red Meat Sector

Following the monitoring of the fuel, iron-steel, tobacco, and jewelry sectors, the Ministry of Treasury and Finance has now turned its attention to the red meat sector. A comprehensive investigation was conducted on four major producers in the sector, revealing that 3 billion lira in profits were undeclared.
The Tax Inspection Board of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance closely monitored the tax evasion in the red meat sector, conducting a thorough examination of the four leading producers and determining that 3 billion lira of profits were undeclared. According to information obtained from the Ministry, after focusing on the unprocessed food, fuel, iron-steel, tobacco, and jewelry sectors, the Tax Inspection Board has now set its sights on the red meat sector.
PHYSICAL COUNT CARRIED OUT Teams enhancing risk analysis and fieldwork in the red meat sector initially conducted physical counts at the premises with large cattle farms belonging to the four major taxpayers that shape the sector. Field inspections were carried out at the facilities of these producers in 7 provinces, and the counts will continue to other provinces. Income experts and veterinarians from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry also participated in the physical counts coordinated by tax inspectors.
RISKY TAXPAYERS UNDER SCRUTINY During field inspections, checks were also made on the livestock presence and ear tags in the facilities. Taxpayers identified as risky during this process were subject to tax inspections. It was determined that these taxpayers had undeclared profits amounting to 3 billion lira, and penal tax assessments were issued accordingly. Ministry teams will expand fieldwork in the sector in the coming weeks.
“ENSURING HEALTHY DEVELOPMENT OF THE SECTOR” Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek emphasized the priority of ensuring tax justice and maintaining fair competition in his assessment, stating: “We are working in coordination and collaboration with relevant ministries. By effectively combating tax evasion, we will ensure the healthy development of the sector. Through these inspections, we aim to identify undeclared activities and ensure that tax obligations are fully met. In this way, we identify those engaging in market-distorting acts for fair competition.”
