Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek stated that the economy continues to produce and create employment, saying, “The Turkish economy is much stronger in terms of macro financial stability.” Minister Şimşek evaluated unemployment and industrial production data. In a post on X account, Minister Şimşek used the following expressions: “Despite the weak trend in external demand and the short-term effects of disinflation in 2024, our economy continued to produce and create employment. Following the contraction in industrial production in the second and third quarters of last year, a strong increase of 3.4% was seen in the last quarter. Thus, industrial production increased by 0.4% throughout the year. In 2024, employment increased by 984 thousand annually, while the unemployment rate decreased by 0.7 percentage points to 8.7%, the lowest level since 2012. Thanks to the gains we have achieved through the economic program, the Turkish economy is much more resilient today and much stronger in terms of macro financial stability.
