Market Expenditure Sees 160% Increase

The rise in food inflation is leading to a growth in the share of food expenditures. According to a recent study, consumers are paying 160% more for groceries compared to two years ago.

Household spending on fast-moving consumer goods in 2024 increased by 67% compared to the previous year. According to the report from the Marketing and Public Opinion Research Global Expert (IPSOS), the average basket size was 88 lira in 2022. It increased by 72% in 2023, reaching 152 TL. In 2024, this figure rose to 229 TL. Based on this data, citizens had to spend 160% more compared to 2022. Products such as chocolate, biscuits, and soft drinks, which are not considered essential items, were purchased more this year. Food consumption expenses were followed by personal and household care products.
