Legal Dispute Arises Over $97 Billion Offer

Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, has taken Elon Musk’s $97 billion offer to court. Altman claimed that Musk’s recent actions contradicted with his previous statements. The technology world was caught off guard by Elon Musk’s $97 billion offer. Under Musk’s leadership, a consortium had made an offer to acquire OpenAI, the developer of the artificial intelligence model ChatGPT. OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, brought up this offer to court, requesting a federal judge to review Musk’s offer. Claiming that Musk’s recent actions contradicted with his previous stance, the CEO of OpenAI asked the court for permission to proceed with the offer. Musk had stated that he was willing to step back from the acquisition attempt of OpenAI as long as the non-profit nature of ChatGPT was preserved. The matter of profit had become the subject of the lawsuit. Elon Musk had filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing the organization of abandoning its mission to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity without profit motives, claiming that the company had violated its founding agreement. OpenAI had also published a series of emails and messages supporting Musk’s endorsement of the for-profit nature of the artificial intelligence venture back in 2017.
