Intel is reportedly facing the threat of a split. According to the Wall Street Journal, Broadcom and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) are in talks to take over some parts of Intel. It is indicated that Broadcom is interested in acquiring Intel’s chip design and marketing division.
TSMC, on the other hand, plans to work with an investor consortium to control all or part of Intel’s production facilities. It is stated that discussions between Broadcom and TSMC are currently in the preliminary stage and no official agreement has been reached. It is also noted that the companies are acting independently. WILL THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION APPROVE? In the event of Intel’s split, the possibility of foreign control over chip production facilities in the U.S. is being considered a national security risk by the Trump administration. It is stated that the Trump administration will not support the possibility of Intel’s factories falling into the hands of a foreign company.
