Impact of Syrians’ return on rent prices

In the town of Reyhanlı in Hatay, rent prices that started to decrease with the return of Syrians have now stabilized. Syrians who sought refuge in Turkey after the civil war that began in Syria in 2011 continue to return to their country following the collapse of the 61-year-old Baath regime. Reyhanlı, located at the zero point of the Syrian border, became a point of refuge for the refugees. The return of Syrians to their country has affected rent and housing prices in Reyhanlı, where the population peaked after the regime’s fall. Housing prices, which rapidly declined after the regime was toppled, have now stabilized just before the holiday. While gas-heated homes in Reyhanlı range in price from 10,000 TL to 15,000 TL, the prices for houses for sale start at 1.5 million TL. Real estate agents, indicating that rental prices will continue to rise in the coming days, said that apartment prices vary between 1.3 million TL and 2 million TL.
