The Central Bank calculated the impact of the month of Ramadan on inflation as 0.5 percentage points. The analysis highlighted the tendency for price increases to become permanent. According to an analysis published in the Central Bank’s blog named “Diary of the Central Bank,” sharing the views of the TCMB employees, the direct impact of food-related inflation on headline inflation during the Ramadan month in 2025 was approximately 0.5 points. The analysis, which examined the impact of the month of Ramadan on food prices, which play an important role in price stability, showed that in February and March, the month of Ramadan increased the unprocessed food inflation by 1.16 and 3.53 points respectively; and in food and non-alcoholic beverage inflation, it created an upward impact of 0.75 and 1.09 points. The analysis stated, “Accordingly, we calculate the direct impact of food-related inflation on headline inflation during the month of Ramadan in 2025 as approximately 0.5 points.” Thus, the increasing trend in meat and poultry prices that began before the month of Ramadan accelerated during Ramadan and then proceeded relatively moderately after Ramadan. There was an increase in egg prices by the time of Ramadan, followed by a decrease in the subsequent period. The analysis noted, “It is notable that price increases related to the month of Ramadan in all examined products tend to become permanent.”
