Hefty fine of 455 million lira for price gouging

The Ministry of Trade imposed administrative fines totaling 455 million Turkish lira in the first two months of the year during inspections targeting price gouging. The Ministry announced that a total of 85,238 individuals and businesses were inspected in the first two months of 2025. Among these inspections, 17,395 companies were fined a total of 454,350,859 lira. In February alone, 9,606 companies were fined 309,973,559 lira. Inspections covering automotive, hoarding, real estate, jewelry, and supermarkets led to fines amounting to 154 million lira being imposed on 629 individuals and businesses out of the 22,033 inspected in the first two months of the year. A significant portion of this administrative penalty, amounting to 126.7 million lira, was a result of inspections specifically targeting price gouging.
