Hazelnut Harvest Begins in the Black Sea Region

The hazelnut harvest has begun in the Black Sea region. Producers in Trabzon, Ordu, and Giresun are clearing weeds in their orchards and combating insects. Producers of hazelnuts in Trabzon, Ordu, and Giresun have started their preparations for the 2025 harvest season. Wanting to increase productivity and quality, the producers are working to have a successful season as hazelnut branches begin to sprout. By clearing weeds in their orchards, producers will also battle pests such as cone mites and brown stink bugs. Eyyüp Ergan, the Chairman of the Trabzon Commodity Exchange, stated that hazelnuts are an important product for the country and the region’s economy. Ergan mentioned that there are tasks throughout the year for hazelnuts based on the months, described as the “hazelnut agricultural calendar.” Ergan noted that producers are currently clearing weeds in their orchards and added, “In the future, there will be work related to hazelnut pest control and fertilization. We are providing advice to both producers and members on what needs to be done.”
