Gold near record levels

Gold prices remained close to their peak levels due to uncertainties in trade. The price of an ounce of gold started the day at $2,919. Meanwhile, the price of a gram of gold changed hands at 3,375 Turkish lira. Global trade uncertainties have kept gold prices near peak levels. Gold started the day around $2,919 per ounce. The price of an ounce of gold reached $2,941 yesterday, setting a new record. After surpassing 3,400 liras yesterday, the price of a gram of gold traded at 3,375 liras in the initial transactions of the day. At the same time, a quarter of gold was priced at 5,543 liras. President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25% customs duty on all imported steel and aluminum products. He also hinted at new customs duties later this week. The suspension of the release of hostages by Hamas citing Israel’s violations of the ceasefire in Gaza has increased geopolitical risks. All eyes in the market are on Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell’s presentation before the House Financial Services Committee today. Investors will be looking for clues on monetary policy from Powell’s remarks. US inflation figures will be released on Wednesday, with headline inflation expectations pointing to 2.9%. Monthly inflation is forecasted to increase by 0.3%.
